If you want to keep the stock kegger go ahead and replace the plenum gasket/pan.

How much $$$ you want to spend?

SCT Tuner is now around $400 shipped with 3 "canned" tunes, but removes torque management and the death flash, it's a pretty good upgrade in itself.

Stewie hit the nail on the head with the plenum and cost question. Full tune-up recently? Any evidence of a clogged cat? New timing chain kit is probably in order too.

Bringing it back to a healthy "factory" state will be a good start to get you where you want to be. I, personally, would do that stuff before buying the tuner.

Yup.

Hard to get the "full" performance gains from the tuner if the motor isn't in the best shape it can be....

Headers, direct fit cat from Flowmaster or Magnaflow (direct fits have the nice mandril bends), Cat back exhaust, a tuner, either an intake system or just a drop in K&N filter will do. That would be a pretty good start

What they said. Save the cold air intake for last or skip altogether, except for maybe k&n drop in.
