If you actually had ZERO oil pressure your engine would be making such a racket you would immediately cut it off and think you destroyed the whole engine.

Don't trust it without a gauge. I thought my sensor was off for a little while, then started hearing the bad noises, after a few months of random oil pressure loss. Finally got a full blown knock pulling into my driveway so I pulled the pan and checked bearings. After looking at this poor motor I am thoroughly impressed. #1 was the noise maker I think, but why this thing didn't sound like a Volkswagen TDI is beyond me. All of the top half (rod side) of the bearings were into the copper at least a little bit.

Moral of the story is check your stuff and trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is.

looks like a bad sending unit to me. I had an oil pressure sending unit go bad on a chevy service truck I used to drive, and it did the same thing. I replaced the sending unit and that solved the problem.

ok guys, update time! i just got done putting a new oil pressure switch in (i rate it amongst some of the top most uncomfortable moments when working on my truck) and it seems to have fixed my problem. HOWEVER, now only when coming to a stop does it go down to zero. when i put in in neutral it jumps right back up. could this be a low oil issue? i need to change it but i plan on doing a flush first. then new oil filter and oil... the engine even seems to sound like its running better. also it wouldent hurt for some new plugs (also picked up today, just waiting on the rain to stop... gotta love the southern Indiana)

Check your oil level and see......

And yeah, it's almost as much fun as doing the distributor cap.......

If you barely bring the RPM up, and the gauge jumps from zero to 30 or more, chances are good that the new sending unit is bad as well. (wouldn't be the first time I got a bad part, right out of the box.)
