Default 1998 dodge ram 1500 tranny issues

I was driving home the other day and the trans wouldn't shift right and if you gun it or took it slow it would still go to neutral no matter what gear it was in I manually shifted it from 1st to 2nd to drive going slow and taking my time and it did somewhat okay and when I hit 60 in over drive it went back to neutral the trans only has 5,000 miles on it I just had it put in it three months ago and Im just lost with this any ideas would be great thanks

Was it a rebuild from somewhere? Or a used trans?

Disconnect the 8 pin connecter from the trans. (drivers side, 'bout halfway back) Go for a drive. Keep in mind, it WILL set codes, and you will have ZERO automatic function. You will have to shift it manually, also, no O/D, or TCC engage. (you will get reverse, and three forward gears, that's it.) Anyway... take it for a short drive, shift thru the gears at appropriate speeds, see what happens. If it shifts nice, and goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, its just an electronics problem. If it still drops into neutral, you have a mechanical problem, and it's gonna get expensive.....
