Tire size
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport with the off road package. It's has the 5.2 and 4:10 gears. I came across this really good deal on wheels and tires but they are smaller, my current size tires are 255/75r17s. The new ones I am looking at are the Goodyear wrangler mt/r, but they are 245/75/16s that are mounted on Steel powder coated 16x8 wheels. This is a package deal for 400 bucks, the tires have barely been used they are like new. My question is what would this do to the performance of the truck, would it hurt my mpgs? Are these just to small of tires for my truck? The wheels are the same bolt pattern and the tires are load range E. Thanks for your help I advance guys.
You'll notice more pull (torque) and higher RPMs. With MPG, its hard to say. Some trucks (and all auto transmissions) like the smaller tires because they don't have to work as hard to make it roll. This is just my 2 cents worth, hope it helps.
We'll guys I didn't go with those tires because the bolt pattern of the wheels was 5x5 and the 2001 dodge rams have a 5x5x 5.5 bolt pattern so they wouldn't fit. I thought about getting wheel adapters to convert but they were expensive, and I have heard horror stories about the wheel adapters causing problems. So long story short I bought a set of goodyear wrangler dura -Tracs 265/70/17s and stuck with the stock 17 wheels. Thanks for the replies and information.
