Default Pushrod Question

Might be a silly question and i may be one thinking it, but I have adjustable rockers and a custom grind cam. Do I need to measure the pushrod and order custom length replacements?

Thanks!

Ken

As long as you have enough adjustment on the rocker arms to properly adjust the pushrods, then you don`t need custom length replacements.

What...? That doesn't make any sense, and from what I can make of it is wrong.

You use an adj push rod to determine the correct valve train geometry, or the sweep of the rocker arm roller over the top of the valve stem, you want it centered. Once the correct length PRs are installed you adjust the valve lash for the proper preload.

If the push rods are not the right length when you adjust the lifter preload your rocker arm geometry might be way off.

That makes sense. Knew I was out in left field. Thanks

I have the adjustable push rod for checking. PM me and maybe we can work something out where I would rent you the tool. You just give me a deposit and then I'd mail it to you. Once you're done with it just ship it back to me.

Now one of the push rod length checkers are only $15-20 so it might not be worth it. It's up to you.

Custom length is certainly optimal, however, unless you have shaved the deck of the block substancially and/or shaved the cylinder heads substancially, you will be fine with off the shelf hardened pushrods designed for your motor. For example, I'm building a 408 stroker with Edelbrock RPM heads and will use Edelbrock hardened pushrods with adjustable 1.6 ratio roller rockers.

I think what you mean is you measure and order PRs closest to the right length, which is the way to do it, and that might what Ram Driver was saying too.

New casting heads (EQ of course) and 390 stroker, zero decked with custom grind cam. Engine Specs are attached. I think I'll go ahead and go the custom route. Probably safer bet.
