so these are 4wd hubs used on 2wd models also?

I put the tire on but its a lot harder to turn than what i think it should be. i initially tried tightening a little at a time but even as u reach the point where the hub feels halfway tight seems like there is a small of amount of movement in the hub assembly up and down. im just used to the old style, u grease it put it on snug it up and set the key,lol this mess is crazy.

 

Take it back and get another one.

 

According to All-Data, the torque spec is 185ft/lb for the hub bearing nut.

 

When i do this as is quoted above the hub locks tight as crap. im not sure which way to go, this really should be so simple.

 

you can always take it back, I have this style on rear hubs of my front wheel drive and the torque was a lot but once I got the wheel on it spun smoothly. If it were me i'd take it back an swap it just to be sure... yes it should be simple, did you put the tire back on a rotate it it any? Was it still super tight?

 

it will turn but not as free as i feel like it should be. when u spin it time u let go it pretty mush comes to a instant stop.

 

everywhere i have read is 185, you can call the dodge dealer svc dept in your area an have them do a quick look up

 

Yeah, that should be torqued to 185.... and should still turn fairly easily by hand. Just slap a tire on there, don't bother with the brakes, or lug nuts, and see if you can turn it with the tire......

 

did that earlier and once to start trying to turn it and get it started it will turn about 3/4 and stop. just had another mechanic tell me the 185lbs is for a HD truck and the 1500 ram is suppose to be between 120 and 145. still not sure.
