I have a Flowmaster 40, with 2 1/4 pipes out, and 3 1/2 chrome tips. It is quieter than the 2 1/2 pipes and the Ravin resonator I had, ( that setup was loud enough to affect conversation in the cab while rolling down the freeway ), but it still sounds good. You probably want to go with 2 1/4 pipes out of the muffler instead of 2 1/2 anyway - you lose bottom end torque with the bigger pipes.

If i go with 2 1/4 pipes, it dont matter what size from intake manifold to the muffler?

I think the stock setup is 3" from the intake through the cat to the muffler. Here's a quote I got in an e-mail from "The Fastman" Dan Arcand, (the guy who builds and sells Fastman Throttle Bodies) "Fuel injection needs some back pressure. Opening the exhaust up too much and it hurts lowend performance but the topend does gain. The trick is to set it up with the correct sizes to meet your goals. A single 3†system will do fine. True duals with 2 ¼ outs is also not a bad setup. 2 ½’s is a big system especially on a mild 5.2." After talking with him on the phone, I decided to scrap my rusting Ravin resonator and 2 1/2" pipes - and go with the Flow 40 and 2 1/4". I just had that done - so I haven't driven it enough to tell how much difference it made in bottom end and mileage yet.

Yeah, it sounds good. Got the rumble when you start it, and you definitely hear it when you accelerate. It is quieter than my old setup, doesn't roar so bad at a steady speed. My other system was gettin on my nerves....and the wife hated to ride with me! I think you want to add the 3 1/2" chrome tips...they are about $70 but they make it sound a lot better. Everybody in this area has them. Midas is running a $299 special right now that includes Flow 40, pipes, and chrome tips. Make sure they use 2 1/4 pipes out however - my Midas puts 2 1/2 on as standard. I had to request the smaller ones.
