I can get 32 oz. of acetone for about $5. So 4 oz. into 32 oz. would be 8, so divide $5 by 8...it's 62.5 cents more per tank of gas.
I was getting 16 mpg x 27 gal = 432 miles per tank.
I'm now getting 19 mpg x 27 gal = 513 miles per tank.
It's about a 19% increase in mileage.
So, $75.60 divided by 432 miles = 17.5 cents per mile.
$76.23 (fuel and acetone) divided by 513 miles = 14.9 cents per mile.
17.5 minus 14.9 equals a savings of 2.6 cents a mile, and a savings of $13.38 per tank.
I drive about 16,000 miles per year. 16,000 divided by 432 miles = 37 fill ups x $75.60 = $2,797.20 dollars per year on gas.
16,000 divided by 513 = 31 fill ups x $76.23 = $2,363.13 for gas per year.
Basically, that's a $434.07 savings per year that I can spend elsewhere, plus my truck starts faster, runs smoother, and throttle response is improved.

I want to know how he is gettting 27 gallons in because if it is a shortbed it only has a 26 gallon tank and hopefully he's not running it dry everytime.

Nope. A tonneau cover or topper will help MPG, but leaving the tailgate down to increase MPG is a myth. It's also illegal in many states.

The adding acetone to gasoline deal is another 'Internet Myth' that just won't die.
I consider it a 'Virus' without software code because many people who will go out and try it, will spill some acetone on their paint and ruin a spot.
Gasoline already has acetone in it. Acetone is one of the many 'natural' products that make up crude oil. Benzene, Toulene, octane, hexane are all their in the 'crude' mix.
If you want to improve your MPG with a gasoline change and are willing to go to extra effort, just begin weighing exactly one gallon of gasoline from the various filling stations near you.
As a general rule, the gasoline that weighs the most per gallon (highest density) will have the most heat (calories/liter or Btu/gallon) and more heat per gallon will give slightly better MPG.
Diesel fuel weighs more per gallon than gasoline and that is one of several reasons diesel engines get better MPG - the main other reason is compression ratio.
Gasoline with added ethanol weighs less per gallon than "pure" conventional gasoline.
89-93 High octane gasoline with more benzene/toulene percentage will weigh more per gallon than 87 octane, but if they make higher octane mixes with added ethanol it will weigh less and get less MPG.
