Default 99 dodge 1500

Hi I have just recently put a new/used motor in my 1999 dodge ram 1500 and i'm have problems with it. The motor will idle nice but as soon as you start pressing on the gas it starts to backfire and loose power. I've messed with the distributor, put new spark plugs and wires in and it still isn't right. Does anyone have any thoughts of what the problem could be.

Welcome to DF.

Distributor has nothing to do with ignition timing. It only effects injector timing. You need to have your fuel sync reset. If it's off much more than 7 degrees either way, odd things happen. (if the dist was moved before the engine was installed, that may be your problem....)

Hows the cat?

Why did you change the motor in the first place?

What color is the truck?

I had change the motor because some one had put diesel in it. So i found another motor and put it in and it giving me issues. The cat is not clogged has brand new o2 sensors. Does the fuel syncing have to be done by a garage? And the color is gray.

Gray? Well, there's the problem.

Did you flush the fuel system? May still have some diesel lingering in there.....

Yes, fuel sync needs to be done with dealer scan tool or equivalent.
