Wheel backspace offset Dilema, need guidance

Wheel backspace offset Dilema, need guidance
so i ordered a set of steel wheels 17x9 4.50 backspace and -13mm offset. I put them on without the tire to see if they were going to be too wide and boy were they. Stuck out so far and i hate that. I read and thought the backspace was 4.5 on my OE wheels but when i measured after seeing how far they stuck out its actually 5.5 backspace. So i checked and they do not have a 17X8 with a 5.5 backspace so i had to drop back down to 16x8 with a 5 backspace. so this means that it will stick out and inch more due to going from 16x7 to 16x8 and also a 1/2 inch because its going from a 5.5 backspace to a 5. so an inch and a half i think i can live with, but the offset is +13mm which i believe pulls the wheel in closer to the frame making it almost only 1 inch sticking out from stock.
So question is am i correct in my numbers and with it pulling in with the +
13 offest will i rub frame with a 285/75R16? thanks guys i need to figure out so i can do the exchange or return through summit racing.

I've got Dick Cepek Torque rims 16x8" with 4.5" of backspacing, with fairly new FC II tires 285/75/16". I've also got 2" taller springs up front, and a long-leaf 2" add-a-leaf in the rear. It's a good combination/set-up.

After reading your email, I went out and had my wife hold the steering wheel at full lock and measured how close the tire was to anything underneath. The tire was just over 2" from the upper control arm (that's the closest it came to anything).
Even with 4.5" backspacing and 285 tires, it definitely does not look like the tires stick out too far. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send you a few pictures of the tires on the truck front/rear/side-view (I'm maxed out on how many I can post on this forum).

thank you so much for the photos, that helps my decision. i agree i don't think those stick out too far at all. i think the 17x9 with the 4.5 backspace pushes it over the edge for me. I wanted to get a 17 and now that i can use 4.5" my options are more. So just to be extra sure going to a 17x8 with 4.5 backspace would still look like yours in the sense of outward length? and thanks again for taking the time to check that and photograph your truck for me, i really appreciate it

ok so that is the dimensions of the wheel i ordered, it doesn't look as bad with a tire mounted on it as it did just the rim. so if i exchange for a 17x8 with 4.5 backspace and 0mm offset it would pull it in an inch from your stance correct? Thanks again

285/75/16" tires are essentially 33" x 11.5" wide tires (that's what I'm running). 305/70/16" tires are essentially 33" x 12.5" wide tires. 255/85/16" tires are essentially 33" x 10.5" wide tires. Usually 33" tires on 15" rims are 12.5" wide (with a few 10.5" narrow 33" tires for 15" rims). And there are different metric sizes for 33" tires for 17" rims too that vary in width.
Why am I saying this? Be aware when folks tell you they have 33" tires on 16" or 17" tires; they may be 33" tall, but the widths may vary. You might want to ask for folks specific tire sizes when looking at their truck's tires when considering tires/rims for yours. An 11.5" wide tire will look different on a rim compared to a 12.5" wide tire on the same size rim.
