I check craigslist everyday for rolled trucks and such. A month ago there was a 12v for 1k and "rebuilt" 46re for 1.5k. Just didn't have the money then. I doubt the overdrive unit on a 46re is the same as a 47re, correct? Cause if I find a 2wd 47re or NV4500, I might snag it and just switch the overdrive unit. Im not so sure whats the difference in a manual 2x4 tranny vs. a manual 4x4 tranny and if you can switch the tail housings.

No part of a 46RE will tolerate the power/torque of a Cummins.

Something to look into when the ole gasser engine goes out I guess. It'll probably be a cheaper way too if you can find deals like you do kgilhooley31.

I'll either do that or take a loan out for a nice used 2ng gen Cummins.

Personally, I'm waiting on that first rolled EchoDiesel. I got all kinds of ideas I could do with that 3.0L if I could get one on the cheap. LOL...

I have always heard everyone say on here to not run 35s on our 46re without at least 4.10s or more, cause it'll destroy tranny over time, but what about with the 47re? Don't most diesels want to run around 3.55 ideally? I have 3.55's from stock. What about that setup with 35s?

Diesels are different, thats for gassers. Diesels make so much torque it doesnt really matter imo. For a gasser though that doesnt make gobs of torque and have a weaker trans, youd want a 4.10-4.56 ratio for 35's. The 47re is a much stronger trans then the 46re so you should be alright there. 46re's cant handle the stock 318/360....

You're using all half ton parts right? Be aware that Dodge Dana 44's are not very strong front axles, and you will be replacing front end parts annually with 35's. Its not the end of the world, but does require a little more maintenance.

Good luck with your build be sure to post some pics as you build

Ok thanks! And when anything breaks, I plan to put 2500 stuff in as the replacement. Just don't really have the money and time to do everything. I want to try and stay light as possible, so I might look into upgraded axels for the future, but not sure haven't researched those at all, that's way down the road.

Keep your eyes open for someone scrapping/parting out a 2500. Some folks have gotten both axles, and the rest of the suspension parts they needed for a couple hundred bucks.
