Default Adding Extra Fog Lights

I want to add an extra set of fog lights for the snowey driving here.

I am Split between the LED
Amazon.com: ASSEM® 18w LED Spot Work Light, 18W Black LED Off road Slim Work Light Lamp 12V 24V for car Truck ATV UTV Fog Driving Lamp: Automotive Amazon.com: ASSEM® 18w LED Spot Work Light, 18W Black LED Off road Slim Work Light Lamp 12V 24V for car Truck ATV UTV Fog Driving Lamp: Automotive
and the Halogens
Amazon.com: Optilux 1450 12-Volt/55-Watt Rectangular Clear Halogen Fog Lamp Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: Optilux 1450 12-Volt/55-Watt Rectangular Clear Halogen Fog Lamp Kit: Automotive

Any input on either? Is there a difference in wattage to brightness LEDvsBulb? (meaning 18w LED would be as bright as 55W bulb) And, I am assuming I can just wire these right in to my stock fog lights so they turn on with my factory switch correct?

Edit: I am planing on mounting them in the rectangle openings on the bumper.

Christ, man, you can see the snow well enough already with the lights you've already got. Throwing more light at it is just going to make it harder to see what's out there that ain't snow. It'll be brighter, for sure, but you won't be able to see as well.

That said, you might get away with wiring the LEDs in parallel with your existing lights, but you'll make smoke if you wire the halogens in that way. If you go with the halogens, snag some relays, put their coils in parallel with the existing fogs, and run the big power on big wires coming directly from the battery. With suitable fuses in-line, of course.

Neither, get some HID fogs with the proper cutoffs, some 55watt ballasts, 3k to 4500k bulbs, and wire them using a relay harness, you'll finally have a decent amount of lighting that doesnt blind other drivers. I wouldnt wire any of those lights directly, use the relay harness.

In either instance I would run the lights off of a relay. (why have all the current run through the switch?, but LED's draw much less current)

P(watts)=I(current) X V(voltage)

The brightness of a light is expressed in lumens, not watts. LED's do not use heat to create light like regular lights. Which is why they use less current and why you see their wattage ratings lower. LED lights are bright as hell, so think of others!

As posted use a relay kit with whatever lights you get. Me I have installed some Vision X led's this summer and I love them. I have no plans on going back to or ever using a HID or Halogen bulb again. I am waiting on LED headlight kits. Aim the LED's accordingly and you will be fine in the snow aim them wrong and as posted all you will see is a wall of white.

Edit; The factory fogs run through relays that are found in the PDB under the hood so yes you could use the factory switch and wiring.

My thought was... having an extra set of brighter fogs low on the bumper aimed more towards the ground to avoid illuminating more snow flakes. I can already see the snow perfectly fine. Trying to throw more light directly to the ground instead of out in front of me. thinking more for the times when I am driving 10-15mph in a white out. My tactics may be off but i figured it was worth lookin into.

Thanks for the info guys, wierings never been my strong suit.

You can always turn off the fogs if it makes visibility worse. Personally I like having the option of more lumens out front at my fingertips.

Don't need to know much about wiring to install a relay harness. All you have to do is attach one end of the harness to the positive battery, the other end to chassis ground, and then the other two wires connect to the special 880 bulb socket that lets you power both sets of fog lights. It's all plug and play no splicing. Go to ebay, search 880 relay harness. Same if you want to jump power from head headlight circuit you buy a 9004 relay harness.

If you are still interested in the high quality lights check out the led bulbs and various off road lights for your vehicle here: http://www.vanix.net/products/led-lighting/

Could you elaborate on this more? I see my factory relay under the hood and a 15amp fuse, does this mean I can splice into my power and grounds from the existing lamps?
