Question Looking for motor ideas

Hello all, I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport. It already has a few modifications but I'm looking to do more. My goal is to push around 550 hp. I have the 360 and I am not sure whether I should build this motor or find a different motor to build and swap into my truck. Any ideas? Anything will help.

You are going to have to spend some serious coin to get that kind of power out of your engine...... what's your budget look like?

Think I would grab a low-mileage 360 from the junk yard, and rebuild that. Start by stroking it out to 426 cubes, and build from there.

Before you think about building a motor to 550HP you need to think about transmission. If you've got an automatic you're gonna fry it in short order...

Why do you need 550 hp in a truck ?, its not a Porsche and im betting your not going to be racing your truck. Build your new motor with low to mid range torque/power in mind, in the 300-350 hp range that is more realistic, and you will be good to go.

I agree...My Drag Dakota w/carbed 408 put down 485 RWHP last time I was on a dyno, now it has a .460 lift cam with MRL solid roller lifters and I suspect it's between 500-550 RWHP now but putting that motor in my 98 Ram would be flat out stupid.

Not worth the money, time, or hassle. There is little to no support for these trucks. Start doing lots of research.

Not true on the lack of support, there is a lot of support for a Small block Mopar, even the Magnum series, it's just stupid expensive to make one fast, it's not like an LS series motor.
