Unhappy 1999 Dodge ram 1500 5.9L shifting problem

So lately my truck has been shifting real rough in the driving gears. I checked fluids and I was maxed out on tranny fluid. I did notice that it was a little bubbly but my shop teacher said it was nothing to worry about. It has been doing this for about 2 week, then when I was on my way home from my girlfriends it would not shift what so ever in drive. You could red line it and it wont shift . my shop teacher told me to ask about a electric governor in the valve body. its shifts well into reverse and the low gears. . so I don't there is a pressure issue. Its a 4-speed transmission. help meeee!!! thankyou

Gonna take a wild stab in the dark here, and guess you have a 97 truck?

Try this: On the drivers side of the trans, 'bout halfway back, is an 8 pin connector. Goes straight down, basically into the top of the valve body. Disconnect that. Secure it out of the way somewhere.

Go for a drive. Keep in mind, there will be zero automatic function. You will have to pic which gear you want, when you want it. Also, there will be no TCC, or T/C lockup. So, don't go real far/fast. Verify the trans shifts into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to. If that all works as it should, then you have an electronics problem. Drop the pan, replace the governor pressure sensor/solenoid, with a set from ElectricalAdvantage (seller on EBAY). They sell the Heavy Duty model from BW. About 100 bucks. Much better design.

If you only have this issue at WOT, that's pretty much standard for the dodge trans.... Same fix though.

99 and we confirmed today that the governor wasn't receiving enough pressure . Now i can manually shift it but if i just put it in drive it will not shift out of first which i find strange . Now i was surfing around for that part and came to a website cascade . You hear of them?

There are probably a great many sources for the parts, including Rock Auto. (and we even have discount codes for them..... look in the faq section. ) Wherever you can find a good price, from a source you trust. We have had a few members buy the EA set, with zero complaints.

Changing the parts will probably solve your issues. You *might* be able to get away with just taking them out, cleaning them, and reinstalling...... but, that is only *might*. Replacing them has a much higher chance of actually working.

LOLOL. Your truck is hinting.

There *shouldn't* be any correlation there...... key word being *shouldn't*.....

TV Cable being out of adjustment would be consistent. It would ALWAYS exhibit the same behavior. Now, if it is jammed up, and only catching 'once in a while', it may be an issue, but, if you are getting low pressure indications, then it is time to address governor pressure sensor/solenoid.
