Go for it. Nv3500 is rated for 300hp

They are an underrated trans. No fifth gear problem either.

Do the swap. It would be really easy to swap to the 4500 later down the road. Basically just a clutch job.

Just get it while the getting is good.

You think so? Makes sense, I was just hopeing it would be able to hang in there.
Especially since I won't have a stock 5.9 either.
The only thing I was worried is that I read you need to do some modifications to the mounting of the nv4500, but it was contradicted with the fact that 5.9 did come with a nv4500.
NV4500 would definitely be my first choice only dilemma would be finding one, and getting a good price.
I heard great things about the 3500 in its ability to hold up to power which is why I figured it would be alright.

Oh, thats not too bad, I'm guessing my 360 will be pushing right around there.
This NV3500 also has only 63k and is from a farm truck, probably never saw overdrive often.

UPDATE
I know it's been a while, been pretty busy between school and working.

I picked up that NV3500 with just about everything else I needed to complete the swap, pretty excited and looking forward to doing it.

When I get home from school this week on Friday I'll probably start cleaning some of the components up ad take some pictures for y'all to see.

I've been doing some research on the swap and think I might start doing little stuff as much as I can to prepare myself for the full swap, such as hang the new peddles, put in slave cylinder and such, etc.

Just for other's points of reference can I change the name of this thread? I'd like to include the 5 speed swap.
I think the motor will have to hold off until I make some money again, not easy going to school 5 days a week.

Look at my thread In the general section. I just finished this swap with an NV4500. It should really clear things up.

Just checking the forum as I usually do and I see my thread with a name change, thank you to whoever did that!!

Oh okay, I will definitely check it out!
I'm interested in a nv4500 but I got a sweet deal for this set-up.

I just pretty much read it through and I think I have a good handle on everything...for the most part.
When I bought the tranny, the guy planned on doing the swap himself and took everything right out of another truck.
I have;
Rear Driveshaft but its from a SC LB truck and I'm not sure if itll fit my EC SB
Front Driveshaft ( a little rusty)
Pedals
NV3500 (63k miles)
NP231 transfer case
Flywheel
Slave Cylinder & all hydraulics
Pressure Plate
Clutch (still looks good so I might re-use it, atleast till my 5.9 goes in)
The guy saved all the bolts, but I'm not sure on which is which
Crankshaft position sensor

I think thats just about everything needed for the swap and I have all of it, but will need a new pilot bushing.

You need the shorter crank sensor. I just shimmed mine.

That rear drive shaft should work fine.

Did that 231 come original with the nv3500? If it did, then it may actually be 231HD. Means bigger chain inside for the most part.

From what I've read, good plan with the tranny at this point.

I think the crank sensor it came with should work, to my knowledge this came out of a truck with the 5.2 I'm presuming which is what I'm going to match this nv3500 up to for now till the 5.9 is done.
Thanks, I thought the driveshaft would work just had to make sure.
