5.2 to 5.9, with an auto to manual Swap to boot.
I took my engine easy the first 500 miles or so it after that but then I had the cruise set on the interstate and it spun the engine to 3,500 rmp's to climb a hill and nothing happened. Since then my engine has been running just perfect.
Most old timers suspicions like that have nothing to back them besides "a hunch". And we're working with modern engineering here. Not 1920 engines.
Not a flat tappet cam so no worries there.
There are two schools of thought. Taking it super easy. Or just using it like its supposed to be. I like the second.

One day I'll fix my cruise...dam vacuum lines.
I give an engine about 500 miles 'break in', change the oil again, and then don't worry about it, and drive like I want to. Being 'nice' that first 500 miles IS hard though.....
But, winding it to 4K once or twice isn't going to hurt it.

While you have the engine out is the perfect time to fix stuff like that. It is also the time to wash the engine compartment and get all the old grease and gunk cleaned off so that if you do develop a leak it will be easier to find. A lot of people paint the frame and firewall too. Just an idea.
Is all this engine stuff starting to make more sense now?

Maybe I'll move my plans to this one, haha.

I found a new harness online, and I'll throw some degreaser around that place, throw some paint on the frame (after cleaning of course).
All this is making sense, I thought I had a good understanding before, but now, I feel pretty confident.
Another update. Just browsing the local Craigslist ads to see whats out there. Just found a NV3500 63k miles with everything needed to complete the swap over. (transfer case, front/rear driveshafts, pedals, wiring harness, etc.) The guy was actually planning on the same swap so low and behold, I think I'm taking a trip in the morning!
