One last question how do you figure out that 10,000 day calender year code. Would January 96 be 0000? Cause my 2001 is 1151 so if you break it down in regular years. It's only 191 days per year since 96

1151 is 3.15 years. (divide by 365, so, 3 years, and about 2 months.) My *guess* is, it would start with the 96 model year, which would be in mid-year 95..... which would translate to some time in 99, I think.... Which would put it in the correct model year range.... maybe..... Yeah, real informative eh? LOL

Werid tho. Cause my truck is a 2001 so 3.5 would seem that my tranny was built in 99? Lol

I don't think I ever stated that I actually understood it.

Sometimes, the auto manufacturers do some TRULY strange stuff..... Makes me wonder what kind of good drugs THEY get.

Ok, something is truly awry there........ Think I would call the local dodge dealer, and see if they can tell you anything. (parts department)

If you are going to be swapping tailshafts, might just as well rebuild the whole thing, as 99% of it needs to come apart to do so. (or, maybe it's just the O/D unit that will need it? That *seems* reasonable.)

I'm not swaping anything my truck is a 4x4 and the one for sale is a 4x4 the seller is selling it because his truck is 2wd and he thought he could swap them easy but can't so he's selling the 4x4 tranny.

And I called the dodge dealer and they had no clue at all. Nothing was in there computer so they were useless

The tranny has he same part number just a different year code I'm so lost lol

Nope they said if I had the vin from the other truck they could. I got pissed cause told them very clear I'm looking at a tranny and want to know if they could tell me the year from the build date code I gave them the serial number. And the guy goes if you give me the vin off the truck I can tell you what year it is... I said a few things I'm not going to repeat and left... But I stopped in at a tranny shop with about 7 dodges sitting around it and turns out the owner is a dodge but but wasn't able to tell me how to read the code but told me any 46re will work from 96-01 if I get a tranny from a pre 09/99 truck all I have to do is pull the valve body and swap all the sensors over from my tranny to the older one and it'll be good to go. So I think I'm just gonna buy this tranny and pull the pan and vb and if I gotta swap a few sensors I'll do it. He said it's very simple

And he would be correct. Although, I don't *think* you need to swap the entire valve body, just one clip that holds the pressure sensor in place.

Edit: Upon further research.... seems dodge abandoned the 10,000 day calendar when it expired in 88..... so, you trans date code *should* translate to January 15, 01. The other trans is going to be March of 99. You will probably need to swap electronics. (buying electronics for the correct year truck would be better though methinks.)
