I have a 96' 1500 4WD, and the transfer case went out. The case did not have the tag on it, so I assumed it was a NP231. I got a used tcase from a guy for $100, but it also did not have a tag. He told me that it would fit a 94-97 Ram.

I got the tcase bolted on, but the front shaft could not be bolted on. The tcase had a U-joint. My local salvage yard said this is a rare tcase, and I now required a front shaft with U-Joints on both ends.

Anyone run into this problem? Any recommendations to resolve my t-case/front shaft issue?

Take the flange off your old case, put it on the new case, use your original front driveshaft.
