Wider Tires/Rims?
Okay so im looking to go wider with my tires and rims but have some questions. I have a 01 ram sport on 17x8's right now... Looking to go to 15x12 is that possible? Would I need a lift or wheel spacers? Will It rub? How bug of a tire can I put on them?
I have 285 70 17s on it now, which i guess is equal to a 33" tire. So if i changed the rims to 15x12's could throw 33x12.50x15 on the rims?

I think if you got bigger than 8" , your gonna rub . I think you are just looking for a wheel that sticks out further . This can be achieved by just a different backspacing on the rim . On my old short box , I ran 33's on 15x8's with 4.0" backspacing . Stuck me out about 1" past the wheel well .
I will tell you this , I just put 20"s off a new Ram on my 96 4x4 . Looks damn sweet IMO . No lift , not a sport , 275 60 20's and no rubbing issues . You could go a size or two bigger with a sport model , heck , I know I could go 285 (33)easy .
Yes , truck now needs a wash

hmmm, Ive been asking the guys at work what they think and they all say i can do it but havnt mentioned it possibly being tight with the caliper. How can I create more backspacing? And with aluminum wheels they cant take as much of a beating off road as steel so I need to buy steel rims when I switch over anyway because I do a lot of mudding and driving through the woods.
Steel might be cheaper.
You can use wheel spacers, to move the wheels out further, but, depending on the design of the wheel, you may have to move them out quite a ways to get enough clearance, and that would cause problems all it's own.
Best bet is go to a tire shop, and have them test fit some wheels. See what you can get away with.
