i guess i should provide a story... the 98 has been swaped from a RE trans to a manual, the CEL is on but also has a EGR code, i can cure the egr code, and if that turns off the CEL, i'll be in buisness... if the trans codes keep the CEL on, i either have to find a way to fool the PCM or change out the PCM for the corect manual PCM, but that gets costly, and cant pass smog with the CEL on in this POS of a state

An EGR Code? But, your truck doesn't even HAVE EGR......... That one always confuses me.

Trans codes may or may not turn on the lite. Just depends on the code. Since you don't even HAVE the auto trans any more, you are going to have a HOST of codes for it, and chances are REAL good, that will also turn on the lite. You can get a PCM for a manual trans truck, and have it flashed to your vin, or, you can get a tuner, that just has manual trans tunes on it, and solve the problem that way too.

the truck is actually a 98 12v cummins, california truck WITH EGR....

it has 5 codes i believe... just looking for an answer on the trans codes before i spend time and $ on the egr fix, if the CEL stays on, it will be a waist, otherwise its about $600 for the PCM

Ok, missed that little tidbit. Makes a difference.

Check with your local parts store for a PCM..... I think they have them for 250 or so. Of course, those are for gas engines.... diesel may be more expensive. Don't know.....

Ouch.

I don't think there ARE any manual trans codes, though, the wiring harness is different. So, you could supposedly just replace it with a manual trans PCM, and be golden. I think. (pretty sure.)
