Best progammer?
An 87 tune will do you wonders, as it will remove the death flash. Dont be afraid to run 89 or 91 octane in your truck though if you get a tune that requires it.
Trust me, with having an 01' too, removing the death flash and torque management made a difference in power and torque with my truck. I never ran the 91 tune yet but the 89 tune is noticeable in power and some more mileage out of a tank of gas.
Sounds about right for magnum motors. Getting rid of death flash will def help.
I have an old Hypertech tuner that had stock tunes for 91 octane, tire size/speedometer adjust, top RPM rev limiter. It plugged into the OBD port in the cab. They cautioned that once you changed the tune, if you go back to the dealer for any reason and they connect to the OBD port, they will erase your tune and put in the factory tune. Once this happens, the Hypertech tuner will not be able to override the factory tune. You have to connect your Hypertech to detune it before going to the dealer, then retune it when you get back from the dealer.
My question is do you have to do this back and forth (tune-detune-retune) when using the SCT tuner? Or will the SCT be able to override the factory tune at anytime? By the way, the Hypertech tuner did not seem to do much for my truck (2000 Ram 1500, 318cc, headers, 1.7 roller rockers, Cat back exhaust, after market air filter, MSD), so I don't even bother to use it anymore. Thanks. RH

SCT has a 4 program memory.
When you first us it, it saves the factory tune to one spot.
The other 3 spots have the 3 fuel grade programs from Hemifever (or other vendor/programmer).
You can swap tunes back and forth as often as you want.

The dealer will only re-flash your PCM if they feel that the current tune is causing the issues. They have no way of knowing you have a different tune on there, without actually going LOOKING for it. If they feel the need to re-flash, they should talk to you about that first, as they will want to charge you for that particular service.
Tuner shouldn't care what tune it is overwriting.....
