Default Rebuild help

I rebuilt my magnum 360, upon my attempt to start the fresh rebuild it would start at WOT go up to 500rpm and die, starting fluid does not work, I have replaced my bad fuel pump, and am stumped, cam sensor is non-Mopar which was replaced when the engine first quit, so it is unknown if it is faulty, I tried a non-Mopar crank sensor and it did not do its job. Any insight would be appreciated.TIA

Welcome to df!

Check and make sure you have your engine coolant temp sensor plugged in. If your truck is 97 or older, you will have two. One is a one wire, the other is a two-wire. Need to make sure you have the right connector on the right sensor, else the PCM thinks it is -40, and will DUMP gas. That'll wash out cylinders, and trash your oil in short order. Pull the dipstick, and take a whiff, smell like gas?

The sensor is plugged in if I recall, I used a watchdog to monitor coolant and whatnot when I tried starting it and I dont remember it reading -40, after sitting for 4 months at the stealer ship so they could figure it out, they claimed it "feels too tight" so they wont crank it, will an aftermarket cam cause a problem, my cam is hughes engines HUG HER0814AL.

What about your timing? I own one of those camshafts (not using it), but when I installed it, my crank gear for my timing set had 2 dots, and I aligned my timing to the wrong dot... After adjusting the distributor and getting it way off of where it should be, the truck started, but ran like a dog (obviously). The way it ran, kind of matches the description of how yours is running. Are you sure your Crankshaft and Camshaft are properly aligned?
