Default No start issue

hey guys new to the forum, just have an issue that I can't track down. I have a 99 ram with the 360. The other day it just wouldn't start, and would just keep turning over but not firing.

So I could smell some gas, figured it was time for a tune up anyway. Replaced all the ignition (wires, plugs, coil, cap and rotor). The old plugs were soaked in gas.

I can hear the fuel pump priming, so I don't think that's the issue. Does this sound like a crank position sensor?

Also it's throwing out no codes.

Check all fuses and relays . Yes , CPS is suspect .

I checked all the fuses. Not all the relays though. what relay would cause this? It sputters and tries to start but will not fire.

So after some other researching, is it true that if the CPS was failing it would cause the ASD relay not to activate as well as the fuel pump relay not to activate? If this was true I could rule out the sensor, because I am getting fuel in the cylinders. I can smell gas and the plugs are wet.

So just hooked it up to a car with jumpers, made sure all my wires are on right and snug, swapped a few relays and tried starting it with pedal all the way down.

It was SO close to starting, but just couldn't Fire. So frustrated!

You are probably getting a very weak signal from the sensor . Might even be enough to fool the PCM to not trigger a CEL . Last time it happened to me I retrieved the code with a scanner .

Have you checked for spark ?

These sensors fail pretty much right away without warning . Everything has been checked or replaced , so , that's pretty much where your at right now . You do have this option before replacing the sensor

I'd suggest a Mopar replacement

Before just replacing a rather expensive sensor...... check your spark at the plug. Given your symptoms, you could also have a failing coolant temp sensor, it won't trigger an ASD event, but, it will tell the PCM that it is extremely cold, and the PCM will literally DUMP fuel.

Alright, so it could either be one of those sensors. I'm willing to bet it's the CTS of the CPS shuts down the fuel pump also. Because every time I smell gas. So I don't have a multimeter, not sure how to test these sensors

Coolant sensor can cause a lot of symptoms , I don't think "no start" is one of them . PCM doesn't use it until it enters the closed loop .

Hmm, I'm going to get a buddy to come over. With some extra hands I can verify a few things and track this down better. But what heyyou said makes sense. It does seem like it's flooding out right away. Perhaps not enough spark. I will clean the grounds for the coil and go from there
