Default what transfer case?

Ok so when I got the current ram this 1 isn't the 1 in my sig its a 99 2500 laramie slt 4 door longbed 4x4 . When I got it the front drive shaft was in the bed p.o. said it just needed rebuilt.Well we did that yesterday& when we rotated the t case where shft bolts to you could hear just a ton of slack. It was so bad it sounded like the chain wasnt even connected to anything. So Im debating on trying 2 rebuild it or picking up a used 1. I have the 241 dhd &on the lower tag it says gear ratio 273.So what t cases will fit? Thanks in advance.

That's the only one that will be a DIRECT replacement. A 231D (or DHD) will work, as will the 241DLD, but, they will require changes to driveshafts as well. The 97 and older case will work, but, the shift linkage is different. (as is the shift pattern) If you got the shifter too, that would work as a direct bolt-in as well.

Diesel and V-10 cases I think require a larger input shaft from the trans, and possibly a different yoke for the rear shaft.

Also, look for the same matching Tcase that is behind same transmission. Auto and Manual output shafts differ.

Edit: you can also attempt rebuilding it. Quad4x4.com is sometimes a great source for parts and knowledge.

The chain stretches over time. So, it's not really unusual. If it really bothers you, you can replace the chain. (and if you are over about 150K miles, it's probably not a bad idea.)

I Wanted to put the drive shaft back on but the mechanic said it sounded so loose he was afraid I was going to damage it more or knock a hole through the side of the transfer case. I keep getting told I need something like 13 mm or 24 mm transfer case I have no idea what they're talking about or how I find out which one? Any ideas?its my daily driver since I sold off the power stroke the RAM died on me the same day my car did.SO I'm hoping to get it done real fast

I think that is 16, or 24mm, and it refers to the size of one of the bearings. Not aware of any way to figger out which you have, without actually pulling it apart, and checking.
