another lift question
From my understanding the coil springs on diesel sit higher and you can get 3" leveling kits for them with out having to change the length of the control arms. with that in mind if I have a a 3" leveling kit on my 1500 and put the diesel springs under the front of it with the leveling kit will I have to change my control arms?
Yes, you will. It isn't HOW you lift your truck, it is how MUCH. Anything over 3" of lift, no matter how you get it, (aside from a body lift) and you need to start replacing other parts as well. Control arms, and track bar being right at the top of the list.
+1 absolutely necessary. Control arms you can get away with leaving at 3", but the stock trackbar needs a slight drop as its about a 1/2"-3/4" to short for 3". Anything above that you'll need new c-arms, new pitman arm, longer shocks, track bar drop or preferably an adjustable bar.
I have this exact upgrade, (Coil springs from a Ram 2500 CTD) I'll say it does stiffen the ride up pretty well, but that is all I did. So far so good thank god, but my slightly larger tires rub on the inner wheel well towards the back of the truck since I didn't do control arms or anything else, the axle was pushed backward, and I do experience a little wheel hop, (I believe it is called..) I do plan on doing control arms and a larger pitman arm, and an adjustable track bar but for now it'll have to do.
Oh, before I forget, I will add, I look under my truck quite frequently, and to be honest, there are no extreme angles on any ball joints or anything of that sort if you are wondering, but me being the way I am, not doing things the "correct" way bother me, but it will suffice for now.
