40 miles to a quart of oil STILL
Well, after replacing the plenum gasket with a Felpro, checking compression, checking valve stem seals and replacing a damn head thanks to the #8 exhaust valve chipping, im still losing oil like crazy. Black soot on the ground from the exhaust, and the damn computer is throwing P0601 just to **** me off. Before i machine out a new bottom plate for the intake, is there something i am missing on my 5.9 that steals oil? plugs look good besides #5 burning the tip off last month thanks to an injector. Please help, or send me some oil, lol
going to get a new pvc valve friday just in case, and there isnt a drop of oil under the truck besides what i spilled on the valve cover. no oil in the radiator either. the intake is dirty, but no oil buildup, and this is with running 50% oil and lucas oil additive also. doesnt matter if its castrol 20-w-50 of strait 30wt.
This is my 4th dodge, and it went from 12 to 9mpg in the past 4 months since changing out the plenum gasket, plugs, cps, cap, rotor and wires. Have been fighting with this truck since i bought it trying to figure out where the oil is going. No luck yet
On a gasser I think unburnt fuel comes out blue, black is oil and white is coolant. So I think you're burning oil somewhere, and quiet a bit. What where your dry compression readings?

That is indeed excessive...... I am REAL curious where it is going. You would think that burning that much oil, your truck would look like a mosquito fogger......
Get your PCV valve from the dealership, not the parts store. (but, even if the PCV valve totally failed, I don't think it would account for that much oil consumption.)
It's gotta be going somewhere...... throw some dye in the oil, drive it for a couple days, then hit it with a UV light, and see what glows.

Interesting about the dye, might have to try that and see if the exhaust glows at night. So to recap, black smoke, no oil on the ground or under the vehicle anywhere, no oil in the water, not smoking unless full trottle, and leaving black soot on the ground when warmimg up in the mornings. Got the valve stem seals and spring compressor ready to go for tomorrow, then will pick up the pvc on the way home and let you guys know what happens next.
