Default Engine question

I have a 99 dodge ram 318 5speed I was wondering if a 360 out of another truck would bolt up to my trans?

Yes you can bolt a 360 to your tranny. Now here are the BUT's
1) You will need the 360"s flex plate as the 360 is externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced

2) You want to use a 96 or newer engine. You'll need the 360 PCM or get your PCM reflashed.

3) Depending on year injectors may take different plug. Both engines use same injector so you can swap.

Try doing a search on engine swaps. There are tons of threads about the subject. Also it helps if you put your truck info in your profile as it makes it easier for us to help you.

Your flywheel won't work, you need one for a 360. Also, if the 360 came from an auto trans truck, you will need a pilot bushing (or bearing, not sure which dodge used there.)

Ok good if it's that easy why didn't Chrysler put the 360 with a 5speed in a 1500 from the factory?

because the NV3500 wouldn't last 50K miles behind the 360, and the 4500 weighed too much.
