Default 5.9 magnum misfires after new tranny

Hey guys I put a new tranny in my truck it's a 1997 ram 1500 with 173k and after I put it in it's now throwing a code for cylinders 3,4,5,6 misfires and I really haven't looked into yet I'm taking the cap off tomorrow and looking at the points and the rotor but I heard a thing if you don't have enough fuel and if your fuel filter is clogged it'll cause misfires and I also heard if your plenum gasket is bad it'll cause misfires but I just wanted to get some advice any advice will help thanks fellas

I'm assuming this is an automatic transmission, correct? Did you remove and install the new transmission yourself? Was the motor running bad before you removed the old transmission? What code is it throwing?

No you're not. There are no points to look at.

Almost every time someone says that a transmission R&R was followed by misfires it's because the crank position sensor got banged up.

I forget the code number and yep I completely forgot about the crankshaft sensor but wouldn't throw a code for the crankshaft sensor and yes I replaced it myself

For this forum to really help you, you need to be able to provide us with details of your issue, such as the code being thrown and the specifics of your truck. When you have a moment, please update your profile to include information about your truck, such as 2WD VS. 4WD, auto vs manual trans, etc.

I asked if you installed the transmission or not, as the crank sensor is the most likely culprit of your issues, as its very easy for it to get damaged unless care is taken with the sensor during the removal/installation process.

No, it shouldn't be covered in oil....... When you had the trans out, was there oil behind the flexplate?

is the bracket for the crank sensor bent at all? This particular scenario is awfully common.... change the trans, engine either won't run, or runs bad..... 99% of the time its because the crank sensor got tweaked. Or, a wire harness got pinched.
