Default PCM- flash or custom performance unit

I need to either replace or change the PCM in my truck in order for it to run properly with with the high lift cam I installed during the engine rebuild. I have heard people refer to "flashing" a PCM, what does this mean and how do I do this? The other option I've heard is to get a performance PCM specd to the cam I am using. Where would I find one of these?

Overall which option do you think is the best and what are the prices for each option?

Thanks

You need to do a search for Hemifever and look him up. He sells tuners for our trucks. They are made by SCT and once you tell him all the things you have do to your truck he can write you a base tune. You then load that onto your PCM and run it for a while. You can get a wide band O2 gauge or a data logger and you send this info to Hemifever. Based on that he will write you a new tune and email it to you. You load that onto your tuner and load the new tune onto your tuner. Now if this tune still doesn't work he will write you another one.
The nice thing about doing it this way is that if you later on do more work to your engine he can write you a new tune again. If you just get the performance PCM it only has one tune on it and that might not be enough for what you have done.

It depends what year your truck is.

This. A rather important detail. 96 and up can be reflashed. 95 and older cannot. You will have to find a specialty shop that can re-write the prom in the PCM.... and that runs 250 bucks a shot at most places. (B&G tuning for instance.)
