Default Need Performance Advice

I have an 01 Ram 1500 5.2 Slt regular cab Short bed. I just put a spectre Cold Air intake on, to try and get better performance /mpgs. Im having a hard time thinking of things to do to add ponys and such. Maybe i shouldn't bother with the engine and possibly change the gear ratio's to have better acceleration. with that said i also plan to put 33's on, so what should i do?

Re-gearing would be the best option, especially if your going with a larger tire.

4.10's for 33's.

For a bit more giddyupandgo, Tuner from Hemifever, (gets rid of the deathflash, and torque management.) Harland Sharp 1.7 ratio roller rockers. Good for about 10HP/TQ. Free Flowing exhaust. (headers, Y-pipe, 3 inch single, or 2.25/2.5 duals.)

Not sure what gears i have in there now. but would the 4.10 be a lower or higher gearing? Also say if i buy a magnaflow 40 will it be able to just fit in place of the stock muffler with just a piece of pipe to fill the void. im sure the magnaflow is much smaller than the oem muffler

You probably have 3.55's in there now, unless your truck is an Off Road Edition. If that's the case, you already have 4.10's.

There is a link in a thread in the FAQ section to get a build sheet for your truck. That will tell you EVERYTHING that was on it from the factory. Doesn't hurt to have it.

First thing to do when looking to add some power is to make sure your tune-up items are all new or in very good shape (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clean fuel system)....and then, make sure that pesky plenum is fixed....I went ahead and dropped in a hughes f1 intake from hughes engines...it both fixes the plenum issue and gives the top end of the engine more "potential" to work better with future upgrades to exhaust, cam, heads, etc.
