Default Support arm dilema

I have a 2000 ram 1500 off-road edition with 275/70/17 on it. My wife tried to surprise me with new tires. She borrowed my truck and had 315/70/17 put on. The tires look great, but when I turn all the way to the right or left they rub on the upper support arms. Does an offset upper support exist? Should I notch out the arm then weld a support on the other side of it? I'm sort of in a pickle about what to do

Arms designed to avoid just such an occurrence are indeed available. Various places have them. (not cheap though.)

I think the steering stops on the D44 front axle are adjustable as well. Increases turning radius, but, stops munching up tires.

3 things you can do, where 1 of them is the minimum.

1. At least new lower control arms to push the axle forward. This will clear away from the body. Otherwise you can cut the tire if you are turned locked one way and in reverse with some compression.

The arms will do most of the help for clearance.

2. New wheels with 4.5 backspacing allows for the tires to not scrub on the control arm. Also could cut the tire.

3. Add a 3" lift all around, or 2.5" coil spacer to the front coils.

If things are tight at the moment, then perhaps change the tires back onto the factory wheels (assuming the original ORE wheels which have 5.5" back space iirc) in the meantime.

Where are you located by chance?

There are no adjustable steering stops.

Default Spacers?

What about a 1 inch wheel spacer? Has anyone tried that?

Sure, but that only helps resolve the control arm contact.

You'll still cut the tire on the body pinch seam as well as slam the inner wheel well. Guy that just bought my axles last night shows that effect.

Some people don't have any issue with self clearancing things.

BTW, your wife is awesome to have done the surprise. The shop that did it though are irresponsible donkey rumps for allowing it. Unless they did forewarned....

Good luck!
