I'm not sure when or if the gears were changed. All I know is what is on the tags. My front pulls very strong when engaged and drags the back end. That's how I know its different. And ihavnt used it since. ButI aint no stranger to wrenches or mechanics. The. Front tag says 3.54 and the rear says 3.55 one of them are lies. Lol

Why would one of them have to be a lie? If you had a different gear ratio in the front from the rear the front wouldn't pull the truck around you would get gear binding once you drove it a ways. Now you ratio can be off a few points. The reason for this is because there isn't always the same ratio for the axles being used. As in your case the Dana 44 and the Chrysler 8 1/4".
The same happens with a Dana axle and Ford 9" axle.

I agree with Hey You about having someone there that knows what they are doing or taking it to a shop. When I started doing gears I worked with a mechanic that had been doing gears for 30 years. He watched me/coached me for my first three axles plus spot checked my work on 2 more axles. It isn't something you just do. On top of which you need the proper tools to do the work. If you don't have the tools then you either have to buy them which adds to the expense or rent or borrow them.

If you were closer Blue I'd have you come over for a weekend and we could do your gears.
That'd be awesome if I did live closer!

From the experience on this thread what are some key points to watch out for?
How is that when I'm doing 70 mph, I'm at about 2,000 rpms, but he's at 1,800 rpms? I have 265's.

TV cable will only change shift points, it can't change gear ratios.

I didn't adjust the TV cable. But when I got the truck the seller told me he put highway gears in it. He just didn't know what they are. So before I go ripping the chunks apart I'd like to know are there any identification marks on the ring gear?

Usually the gear ratio (or, the tooth count...) will be etched into the ring gear.
