Default Gear ratio

Ive got a question about regearing. I'm haivng a hard time deciding to go to 33's or 35's and the gearing. I'm thinking of goin to 4.10's for 33's of course, but how bad would 35's affect 4.10's? I was just thinking 4.10's would be a kind-of-universal gear ratio if I wouldn't have a set tire size and would switch between 33's and 35's..... Some people said on 1994-2001 dodge page on FB that running 4.10's would aweome for 35s and 4.56's would be overkill. That messes with my knowledge that I already know. Anyone have any input on this subject?

Put 4.56s in. Good for 35s and good for 33s too. Nothing wrong with a little extra gearing in that situation. Been running 4.10s with 31s for a while now.

Alright. So how would the drive ability be with 4.56's and 33's? My truck is pretty much my DD, so I'm just curious about that. Also I never asked you on your axle swap but how do you like those 4.10's they pretty good with 31's or would you go higher ratio?

Your miles per gallon will increase a bit because the engine will run at a higher rpm to do the same speed(as the original gear). Don't forget you need to replace the one in the front axle also. Can't use 4X4 with two different axle ratios. I have 33's and 3.55's and i am happy with it. 35's i would change gears. Depends on your personal preference and how you use it. Bigger tires need lower gears to get moving. I guess engine size factors in there also.

Yep I know about doing both axles. I'm just trying to make a final decision, I'm trying to factor in everything I can.

Go 4.56s. always plan bigger. Not many people go down in tire size

Drivability of my truck is great. I averaged 14mpg over the summer from 90% highway driving. I do live in a relatively hilly place. I would never want to go back down to 3.55s. They suck. especially with autos.

The higher rpms equaling worse mileage would be moot in your case. It's such a small difference. Just look at my example.

Sweet. Well I'm considering fuel mileage and power (yeah dumb thought huh) but I don't want it to tank, but from what I've read some people keep a decent 10.5-13 with 35's while others struggle with 8-9( which I think is a gearing issue). I'm sure the 4.56 will keep the power like it is now so I'm not to concerned with that. My only other thought that keeps coming up is wheel bearings. I know it's a good idea to swap out a Dana 60 but to find one for even decent price around my area or state is pretty low. JY back home had a Dana 60 in a 94' V10 for $1000( I was figuring 500-700 range). I don't see that investment getting paid off for awhile, how many years of wheel bearings can I buy for 1K or go past a year for longevity of a wheel bearing. I've heard people go past a year and 40k on a wheel bearing set with 35's- 37's( don't totally believe that but it's info).

4.56 gear will make you spool higher on rpms, which equals less gas mileage. 4.10 gears are ok for the DD but if you are towing or plowing or mudding, definitely go with 4.56 gears, you will have to grind out the housing on the differential to clear the ring gear.
