Sorry to be short but can the cam bearings on a 5.2L 4x4 be changed without yanking the engine or tearing out the crank?

 

Nope. Engine needs to come out to get the rearmost bearing.

 

Well i supose you could do it if you had enough room between the back of the block and tranz. There is a plug that goes in the hole at the back of the block. Any reason you are changing them? I just tore down a engine with 180K on it and the cam bearings where in great condition. They hardly ever need replacing.

 

^Agreed, can bearings very rarely need changing, but ya, to do them properly you should pull the engine, it will be less work, really.

 

Question ? Why would you want to just change Cam bearings? for what reason you believe they need to be changed?

 

Cam bearings in these magnums all look like **** its pretty well documented. However, they are almost always completely fine for use.

 

MY bearings are fine, far as I know. I was asking for a friend. Not sure what his symptoms are. He just texted me and asked if it could be done. thanks for the replies.
