1997 5.2 magnum NEED MORE POWA!!
well my 5spd manual decided to kill itself so its my excuse to redo the whole drive train I am wanting to do a overhaul on the engine new rings gaskets seal ect what are some recommendations for intake manifold, tb, headers, heads, intake, cam, maybe pistons. and what is the best xcase and tranny rebuild kit.
I am going thur a rebuild now, don't just do rings Bore 30 over and that way you know the cylinders are round and true, also just build a 5.9 360, the 318 is the same just a different stroke and connecting rods. if you never want to rebuild again and have dependability go on line get a complete rebuild kit, pistons, cam, lifters, bearings, seals, and gaskets. hughes efi air gap intake, modified throttle body, (some headers) if you want, and get the heads redone or buy new. So far I am 4 grand in the hole for sinking my 2500 in a watery mud hole 2 years ago
Check out the link to my engine rebuild in my sig. There is a link to an article about them doing a stroker kit on a 318 and they made some very nice power.
Anyhow neighbor you have a lot of options it really depends on how deep your pocketbook is. As they say HP costs money. The best way to do this is to stroke your engine. You can install a stroker kit and go from a 318 to a 390. Now everyone of course is going to tell you to go with the 360 first but you can make some nice power with the 318 too.
Don't mess with your stock heads just get some new ones from EQ and stay with the stock size valves. As for the tranny & t-case do as HeyYou suggested and get the NV4500 & a 241HD they will both work just fine behind your 318. And as has been suggested get some 1 ton axles. There are a ton of write-ups on here about swapping in Dana 60's front and rear and you can find them.
Tell us what you use the truck for, What your plans are for it? What size tires do you plan on running?

If you are going to tow/haul with it, with 37 inch tires, you are gonna wanna go deeper on the gears. 4.56 at least, 4.88 if you can find them.

As HeyYou said you want 4.56 or 4.88 gears for those 37" tires. You also will seriously want to look at swapping in D60 axles as your stock drivetrain is not going to like that large of a tire. You're real close to my house. If you don't have the tools or knowledge to do the work I'll offer up my help. Your truck won't fit into my garage but we can work on it in my driveway. Find the Dana 60 axles and bring them over fist, then we can regear them and add any type of traction device you want at the same time. Then when the axles are ready we just get all the parts needed before we start the swap and we swap the axles out. That way you can get new rims and tires to fit the D60 axles.
You also really want to consider doing the 390 stroker on your 318. Pushing those big tries you'll be thankful you did. And going to the bigger axles will give you larger brakes, axle shafts, u-joints, ball joints, uni-bearings & so on. If you're trying to do this in stages I would wait on the tires until you can do the axles.
If you need any help with your truck let me know. I'm retired so I am pretty free most of the time.
