What manual trans mates to a 231d mine has no tag
I'm trying to find a new trans for my 1997 dodge 1500 with 5.2 and manual 5 spd and a np231 d but I don't know what my trans is there's no tag

Since you have to get a new tranny anyhow what about getting a NV4500? Your t-case will bolt up to it. Now I don't know if your bellhousing will work or not. If you have the funds I would get the stronger transmission.

I agree with Wildman, if you can get a NV4500, that's what you should do. Your current one is the NV3500, but the NV4500 came in the Dodge Ram 2500 with manual transmissions, you'd be happier with it.
Nv3500 has integrated bellhousin so you would have to source one for the 3500.
Also, mid 2000-2002 nv4500 behind the v8 were 29 spline. You currently have a 23 spline(I assume) input on the t case.
