distributor gear

Default distributor gear

How do I properly remove the distributor drive gear.

It's been a while since I've done it, but I believe you can remove it with a large flat head screwdriver and turn it. The drive gear has a slot in the top, put the screw driver in there. The teeth on it are angled, from where it meets the camshaft, those teeth should lift it up.

Yep, then have something you can grab it with.... maybe a strong magnet? Or, if you have the intake off, just reach in there.

Most likely you will have to drop the oil pump and use a small shaft to hammer it out(i did). Depends on how much build up you have on the shaft and the condition of the bushing. Just curious, Why are you removing it? New cam!

Mine was stuck in there pretty good too, all the varnish fused it pretty good to the oil pump. Work it back and forth, up and down, should break loose.
