Right, the key dance works on 94-97. Pressing the trip reset button, and turning the ignition on in the 98 and up trucks does a cluster test, it does not display PCM fault codes.

 

No, but I was wondering if maybe it was suppose to? I dont know why it would, as it didn't do what looked like enough damage to send an airbag off. I definitely took a good jolt...maybe the mass sensor was bad, or the system itself? Not that it matters in this case necessarily, but Ill take a look at the radio when I get the chance. I need to pull out my lower dash and replace it sometime so maybe Ill do it all at once so I can get a good look at it.

I mean lower dash as in the whole structure everything clips into like the bezel, cup holders, etc. Mine is basically bits and pieces and I found one for 85$ at a junkyard. Guy let me have everything including the glove box and I did the work to get it out.

The sensor will only trigger the bag in a very NARROW angle of 'attack'.... You almost have to be absolutely head-on for it to go. Though, it may have been close.... and kinda goofed up the sensor. I would be tempted to replace it just on general principles. I think the sensor is up on the radiator support somewhere?? I would have to check on that.

 

I know there is a couple. Ive worked on our chevy and it has it dead center on the radiator/front frame. Im thinking my truck has a couple on the fenders and radiator. Maybe 3 or 4 total? Ill check it out, but it goes off and on quite a bit. Makes me wonder if its like you said and it goofed up the sensor. In which case its probably not to comforting to drive knowing the sensor could trip the air bags if it for some reason sends a signal.

 

Probably wouldn't hurt to take it somewhere to get the airbag codes read, and see what it thinks the problem is.
