i was talking to my dad tonight and he heard if i took my cat off of my 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 it would badly affect my gas mileage. i was just wondering if that was true

no it wont i dont think but u will wanna put a simulator on cuz it u dont there are sensors there and will make ur check engine light come on if nothing is there.
Record Breaker
If you don't put an oxygen sensor simulator in, it WILL make your mileage go down. Your mileage will go down because the computer will richen the fuel mixture when it sees that the reading of that sensor is off.

you may loose some backpressure by removing the cat. that backpressure is what helps to build low end torque (my opinion) and helps with low end power, which in turn helps with mpg.
