Default 2500 4wd cab swap to 1500 2wd

My 99 2500 4x4 extended cab is rusted out beyond repair and cab interior is trashed (work truck).

Everything not body related is fine and the truck only has 115,000 miles on it with the plenum gasket and lots of other repairs done.

I am getting married in Florida soon and judging from Craigslist they have 1500 2wd rams all over down there rust free and cheap.

A few questions

- Will there be any issues with electrical from a 2500 to 1500 cab? Can the wire harness from the 2500 plug right into the 1500 cab?
- Would cutting a hole in the floor and reusing the 2500 4x4 interior trim be all that is needed to get 4x4 working?
- I am assuming bed and fenders are the same on 2500 and 1500.
- Anything else I am not thinking of?

I know there will be VIN issues but ill deal with that later, this is more hypothetical now.

I searched around for answers before posting but haven't found anything specific to this swap.

Thanks in advance, any information is appreciated.

Someone apparently put a 4x4 cab on my 2wd truck, as the cup with linkage was already part of the floor (for the xfer case shifter).

Find another 99 cab, same as yours, (extended, or not...) and it will bolt right on, and hook right up. The cabs are exactly the same. The dash from the 2wd may not have the bulb for the 4x4 light though, and you will have to cut a hole for the t-case shifter.

Thanks, I'll go for a 99 cab then.

I see you are from Michigan, I'm in Holland.

Does your name have anything to do with free beer and hotwings?

horatio102 - thanks, apparently it can be done in reverse as well.

You say extended or not...........

Does that mean I could turn this into a standard cab with a long box?

I imagine wire harness lengths would be different at least.

No, the frames are different from regular cab, to extended cab.

As for my name, think "Pink Floyd".

Well i would transfer the dash(and all wiring) over from your original truck anyway. May be some option differences between the two that may not work. Get in touch with you local DMV and see if you need to do anything as far as the id sticker by the door striker. I doubt you will get it off without damaging it. I believe you can get the special rivets holding the vin tag on somewhere.

My dash is trashed, I can deal with the dmv but the dash is dead.

Pfft. My VIN is on a chunk of dash sitting in my glove box. The door sticker has long since been erased (it's just a white sticker now, no writing at all).
