Unhappy Extension Housing Misaligned Gears

I just bought the truck. 2000 Ram 1500 Laramie Ext Cab 5.9L 2wd Auto

When I bought it, I knew that it needed a new output shaft seal and when I went to replace it I discovered that the bushing in the output housing had completely worked it's way out. I made the mistake of removing the extension housing to install the output bushing and now I can't get it back in. I looked down into the housing and discovered that the gears(?) are not aligned. There are two sets of channels for the spline coming from the transmission to mesh with and these channels are about 1/2 tooth off from one another which keeps me from being able to re-install the housing. I'm not sure how to fix this. Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about. I can't really afford a transmission shop if I can avoid it.

Can't you just rotate one of the shafts a bit? In this case, pics of what you are talking about would be a great help.

I got my response. Took the OD housing to the transmission shop and found out that it had to be disassembled to fix the alignment issue. It's a good thing I did. I found out that when the truck spun that bushing out it ruined the OD casing.
