Exclamation Electical demon..

I've got a 98 ram 1500 with a 5.9l. over the past few years I have been having some weird electrical issues. In the winter time I occasionally have the issue of getting no power to almost everything in the cab, ( turn signals, radio, climate fans and vent doors, and all gauges). Headlights still work... It has a new battery and I have replaced the alternator just as a precaution due the truck having 170000 miles. I have looked at all the wire harnesses for cut or frayed wires. I have also had another issue were the trans temp light and the O/D off light turn on then off while driving. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Intermittents are always such fun..... next time it does it, see if you are getting power to the ignition switch, and also, if you are getting power OUT of the ignition switch. Wiring diagrams are in the service manual (which can be found here.) to tell you which wires should be hot when.

I forgot to tell you I have also replaced the ignition switch awhile back due to the steering wheel locking while I was driving. Oh what fun that was...

Bet that was a real pants-filling moment...... (that seemed like an eternity.....)

Check the connections on it then in any event. Dodge was a bit stingy with wire length, and if you have tilt-wheel, may have pulled some.

Maybe your truck hates winter as much as I do.

Welcome to DF!

Check all your ground wires. That's usually the easiest place to start. We often overlook the negative side of the equation.

i had a similar problem once, when a fusible link burned up and i lost all power, but that wouldnt be intermittent. it does sound like a loose ground almost.
