torque converter locked up???
local mechanic said it might be the lockup solenoid that is inside the pan. This worth looking into or suck it up and drop em?
Disconnecting the electronics *should* have addressed that, if it were stuck..... you could *try it*.... but, I think the TCC and O/D solenoid set is like 100 bucks. (plus some fluid, and maybe a gasket.....) If it is simply a jammed up solenoid, that would indeed take care of it.... Couldn't hurt to look I suppose.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid TCC for a replacement and where to get it? Not looking for anything high performance. This is a farm work truck that pulls occasionally but nothing major. mostly trips to the field and town for parts. Checked with Napa and they don't have anything in their system.
You need to replace the entire torque converter. No user-serviceable parts inside. Any parts store should be able to get you a selection. From dirt-cheap stock replacements, to high-dollar billet customs.
All solenoid valves work the same for the most part. It's usually a (spring loaded)rod and coil. Energize the coil and the rod(valve) moves. You will hear and posibly it will spit oil when the valve moves. You might be able to blow compressed air in it and tell that way. I have worked with many of these in the hydraulic industry. The ones in the tranys are smaller but do the same thing.
Replaced the solenoid and that released the lockup which would seem like good news. But....now hearing some noise and so I think the converter is toast. I think the only way to find out is to pull it apart. Going to try to do that today.
