Default early shift into 3rd gear 98 ram

My truck has shifted a little "funny" since I got it last year and it never bothered me enough to ask anything until now. I finally tried adjusting the tv cable tonight and it got the 1-2 shift more where I wanted it to be but as soon as it shifts into 2nd gear it shifts into 3rd gear right away. Sometimes after it shifts into 3rd it shifts right back into 2nd for a second or two and then right back into 3rd. I've looked at tons of pages trying to find something that will help but it's hard finding someone with exactly the same problem and how they fixed it.

Before anyone suggests it, yes I checked the fluid in neutral on level ground.

Wonder if your electronics are giving you fits...... time for a governor pressure sensor/solenoid?

I did read something about the governor causing people problems. What will a bad governor cause?

Governor determines when/how hard your transmissions shifts...... or downshifts...... it's rather critical that it is working right.

Yep, It's a fairly easy fix. Replace the BOTH of them!

Sorry I didn't respond right away. The truck has been better since I've been driving it around but I'm still considering doing the governor and transducer. Another question, I see "heavy duty" governors. Will one of those firm up the shifts?

No, pressure is controlled by the PCM...... You can firm up your shifts a little bit by adjusting the TV cable, but, that will also have the side effect of changing shift points.

The heavy duty solenoids are ostensibly self-cleaning, which the stock pieces are not.... so, they are less problematic.
