Ill check out all the wiring with more detail, and the 15 minute thing I'm not sure, once the truck is warmed up about 15 min later O/D off and shortly after trans temp.
I have a 99 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.9L 4x4 with a 46re transmission. I rebuilt the transmission 2 years ago and has ran great since recently. the truck will drive great until about 15 min down the road, when the truck is warmed up and the overdrive will turn off and shortly after that the trans temp light will come on and it stays in limp mode until its cooled down...ive replaced the radiator because the transmission cooler is in the radiator. i replaced the wiring harness on the valve body 3 times and I have replaced the engine coolant temp sensor, and i have removed the checkball in the transmission cooling line and anfter i put everything back together it still turns the overdrive off and is still acting like the transmission is overheating and the transtemp light comes on shortly after the overdrive turns off. any ideas?
Hello. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Something similar is happening with my Truck. Around town it drives fine. But driving it on the Highway about 20 minutes out the Trans Temp light comes, THEN the O/D off light. Took it to a shop to have it serviced, they said they fixed it but apparently not, because it still does it. And the last time I drove it it feels like the transmission is acting up. Does not drive as smooth as it did. And I don't know jack squat about Automobiles, so have not clue what people are talking about. I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions.

Usually, that's due to either low fluid, which would give you other odd symptoms as well.... or the check valve in the trans cooler line clogging up. Or, possibly a failing trans temp sensor....... So, check fluid first, trans fully warmed up, idling, in Neutral. (block the wheels please, so it doesn't roll away.....), if that's good, go after the check valve next. It's in the cooler line that goes to the bottom fitting of the radiator, right where the metal line from the trans, transitions to the rubber flex line. There are a couple threads in the FAQ/DIY section for options on how to deal with it.
It could also possibly be the trans cooler if one is equipped. Mine was clogged. Usually after a rebuild it needs to be replaced. They sometimes clog either way. Seems these transmission run high to begin with. Temps of over 200 degrees are common. I cut out my trans cooler, replaced it with a bigger aftermarket cooler.
