Default Transmission rebuild shops?

Well my tranny Im pretty sure if ready to go. I've patched it the past couple months but now shifting is real bad and I can't tighten the kickdown band since it's broke another anchor and it is collecting so much metal shavings. So anyone have experience with an nj shop or very close by pa or ny shop? Also an estimate on a 46re rebuild price. I would just want to transfer over my solenoid and deep trans pan.

If you intend to keep the truck for the long haul you want a Mega Viper. If you intend to let go of it soon, just go cheap and use some of the money you save to buy a for sale sign to put in the window.

So I have a price quote from a reputable local shop. They want $2700. They will install a rebuilt unit take my old one for core exchange. New torque converter. 3yr or 100k warranty. What do you guys think? I know I'm in nj so it will be a little pricier than other states. Also towing my truck would cost a few hundred so I really can't go to far. Other option they quoted is i supply the trans and they install for $600-750

Is that a stock rebuild? Or something a bit nicer? If its just stock..... spend a bit more, get a mega-viper, and never have to worry about your trans again. (get a torque converter from the same place ya get the trans.)

Also any options for a patc viper 2 i should go with? Or is there anoher company that does a decent job? Last question for now if i were to install it myself how hard is that? I have done bolt additions to my engine. Intake manifold, headers, plugs distributor and brake booster. I did a timing belt on a honda and i did open up my transmission a little while ago to replace a band anchor. Just trying to gauge it if possible. Before spending $600-750 if i can install myself

If you have a good assortment of tools, a good floor jack and a person to help and a bit of patience and persistence, you can certainly do it yourself. A universal and long 3/8" extensions are helpful in getting the bellhousing bolts removed/installed.

I went with the billet converter w/1800RPM stall, deep pan and filter extension, and a remote filter kit on my Level 3 (Mega Viper). You might consider at least the deep pan, filter extension, and remote filter kit to increase the lifespan of the thing.

Don't forget that you absolutely MUST flush the ever-lovin' 5h17 out of the ATF cooling system, both the radiator and the auxiliary if there's an auxiliary cooler on your truck. You don't want any crud or grit that might already be in there circulating into the new juice.

Edited to add: If you're mechanically inclined and have an eye for detail you can do the R&R yourself. A helper is darn nice to have around if you've never done a transmission R&R before. The most important thing of all is to be sure you get the converter stabbed properly -- screw that up and you're back to having a busted transmission again in very short order, and PATC's warranty expressly excludes botched installs. It's not hard to do it right, but enough people get it wrong that it bears mention.
