No power
Maybe its just me, but I think my truck should have more power than it does. It has the 318 in it and a Magnaflow system. Air filter, cat, exhaust is all new with in 4000 miles. Today I was screwing around and I put it to the floor while I was turning a corner from a dead stop and the rear wheels didn't even break loose at all.
Something else I'm missing or is this about all the power its got?

There are a few times when I haven't been able to spin my wheels either [8D]
It's a 318...it's not built for raw power. It's built more for steady reliable power...a workhorse motor.
And as was mentioned, gears will make a difference.

one question not asked... how is your exhaust setup? if you have a new cat back setup with 2.5" dual out's that's most likely contributing to your low end power loss... spinning the tires with 3.90 gears should be easy. the last time I tried, from a dead stop I was able to "scratch" about 20' from a dead stop with BFG AT 285's that were about 80% worn, (still had good tread left) and posi in the rear. earlier in the year when I put on the dual exhaust with 2.5"'s on the output, I couldnt launch for the life of me. had them reduced down to 2.25" and a lot of low end torque came back.
I have an aftermarket cat thats the same as the factory one. So its a dual in, single out cat. Its one pipe for about 2 feet then it goes into my Magnaflow single in dual out.
Spin them from a dead stop? HA! That almost makes me laugh, I don't even think I come close to that! Seems like something else is wrong. Or maybe I am loosing that much torque? Oh yeah the pipes are 2.5" if I remember right
I have a tool box in the back also with probably like 60-70 lbs of crap in it. Is that weight really giving me that much more traction so I can't spin 'em?

take those 2.5" dual outs down to 2.25" and then give it a try. I had a simiar setup to yours when I 1st put my exhaust on and couldnt get out of my own way for the life of me... brought the out's down to 2.25" and you couldnt keep the sheet ars grin off my face... [sm=gears.gif]
do it!
do it!

I think it should have more power. I can spin my tires in second. you have a auto or a stick.
