Default no FM on factory radio

Okay I just bought this truck and it has 56k original miles and I never check the radio when I was test driving it. It's a 1994. 1500 5.9L and has a factory radio with the tape player and the AM works I pick up a few stations but the FM won't pick up any stations at all. Not a single one. Not even alittle bit. I don't know if there's a setting on it or what. The antenna looks to have a plastic sleeve over it. Idk if that would do anything. But I don't own any tapes and it's not fun driving in silence. I don't want to put a aftermarket one in because I want to keep the truck all original

Pull the radio out and make sure the antenna is plugged in. It is 24 years old. May just be time to replace it.

You don't own any TAPES ?? Aah...memories, I remember the giant double sided cassette tape suitcase...

Get yourself a cheap aftermarket with a slot for a jump drive. Get an adaptor harness and put the old one away in a box.

I guess that's my only choice. If I have am channels does that mean the antenna Is good and plugged in and maby the radio is just bad.? Cause I dont want to buy a after market and still have no FM

Just grab a radio out of another dodge from that year or near that, I have a '98 caravan radio in my '95 and it works fine. Could probably get one for under $50 from a local wrecker, mor post a want ad on Craigslist or similar. If the antenna was dead I doubt you would have am stations coming in, the plastic sleeve on it is factory, mine has it too.

From installing radios I found that AM will usually work without the antenna connected but FM will not.

And look up under the passenger side of the dash, just around the top of the sail panel, to make sure the intermediate (coaxial antenna lead) connector there is plugged in, too. I'd start with that one since it's easier to reach.

When I got my truck a couple of years ago, the previous owner had a real crappy aftermarket radio in it that barely played anything, and sounded real bad.

When I was on vacation last year I went to a pic n pull and found a really nice stock am/fm cassette/cd player that was plug and play from a 1998 Durango.

It sounds real good in my truck, and its nice to have the option to play cd`s and some old cassette tapes that I still have around.

Are they all universal? Basically if it fits in the hole I can put a factory cd player in my 94?
