Default axle question

How do i identify which dana axle i have? I have a 99 2500
with a manual trans. I need to rebuild front end, and want to make sure i buy the right parts. Ive been told its a 60, but ive also been told its a 70 or 80,but I wouldnt consider any of the sources Reliable. Are there any makings or distinguishing features?

Easiest way is to call the dealer parts dept. and give them your vin, they'll know what you have and their prices are often very competitive on rebuild parts.

If it's all factory, untouched from someone else, then it would be Dana 60 based on the year and model. The picture above will help with that a bit.

Here is a link to also help out.

Your rear axle would be a 60 if you have a gassed V8. Or a 80 if you have the V10 or Cummins. 70 is for the auto V10 and Cummins.

Your front will be a 60. all 2500-3500 where. assuming factory.

He is dealing with the front axle, so, D60 is indeed correct.

unless removed there should be a tag with numbers on it telling you what type of axle you have, if not then get vin, go to dealer have them tell you what type rear you have. on a 99 2500 you should have a Dana 60 under there with a with 8 lug. Now I know for a fact there is a heavy duty dana 60 and a lite duty dana 60. Just go to dealer and find out what kind you have
