I had a thread started earlier but it got overwhelmed and is 4 pages and has a few people trying to take it over. But after all the parts my temp is running a hair above 200 now I'll post pick. All I need to know if that's right where it should be. Or should I changed the T stat now. This is under a small load going up a long hill on the highway
That's right where mine runs when pushing it . I'd consider it a normal range for sure. Mine breaks even on the 200 mark but usually a hair over . I assume your temp is more steady now ?
I don't know what's in mine just yet , however , I do think it's a tad high in both our cases . I've noticed with a 195 Stant t-stat they do run the temps a little higher than the Mopar one . I won't be surprised to find a Stant in there . I've always stuck to the Mopar stats since . They seem to run a consistent 195ish so worth the extra change IMO .
Sounds like you've won the battle ........ for now

That is normal. Put a fork in it.
This should have been on the other thread still....
Mind adding your truck info, year/model to your signature/profile....
It still fluctuates alittle. Abouy 195 when normal running then right there when im pushing it .Okay and even if I put a lower t stat in wouldn't the truck still run right there under a load. where it's at the T stat should be fully open already.correct? And it's a 94 5.9L will it still throw a code for being in open loop so long. I didn't know if in 94 it will still recognize that
Mine does similar. Depending on out side weather and driving conditions. An IR laser shows 195 - 200 all day long wherever it's pointed at. To my understanding these gauges can be about 5ish degrees higher than the actual reading when running at normal temp.
If the gauge reads alittle higher that's fine. But I think I'm going to just be happy with where it's at. It seems to be a safe temperature. And after all the work I've done I'll be content. I don't want to put a 180 stat in cause I don't want to loose MPG cause right now it's amazing actually compareable to my honda accord. The only reason I'd do a 180 stat is if it will help preserve the plenum? Is there anyway to save it or atleast prolong it's failure?
Mine has always been about 1/4 inch lower than that with a 195 stat, on my current truck and my R.I.P 99. The only time my 99 was that high was from really, really old coolant and a thermostat with 150,000 miles. I can get mine that high with card board in front of the radiator and out side temp's above 30 degrees.
That is amazing MPG! Same as an accord. Mine gets the same as 3 accords, at once.
